2020 has undoubtedly been an interesting year. Setting aside the pandemic, in 2020, we saw devastating floods, fires, and storms across the world, humanitarian crises, and civil unrest. Add the isolation and fear associated with COVID, and many have struggled to navigate the uncertainty. Here are some ways to reframe the situation to find opportunities in 2021.
Product Planning Take a look at the product landscape with fresh eyes. Have the needs of your consumers changed? Are there new ways you can add value through your product? Are there partnerships that would elevate your product to best-in-class? Execution Can you change the way you execute to make it easier to adapt and change direction? Are there opportunities to modify the technical framework to make it more flexible? Now is a great time to experiment; can you perform rapid testing to learn what will work and what to leave behind? Consumer Engagement Now is an excellent time to reach out and connect with your consumers. If you cannot sell your product due to local restrictions, are there other ways you can remain engaged? Do you have the ability to donate your resources to a cause? Explore new channels for engagement; you may discover a new consumer cohort. Personal Satisfaction Look at what you are doing and see if there are opportunities to align your interests with your role. Employers are looking for problem solvers. Are there new responsibilities you want to take on, or is there potential to make an internal move? Does your work environment contribute to your productivity? Are there habits you can adopt (or break) to make yourself more successful? It is not easy, but if you open yourself to viewing the current climate with fresh eyes, you may discover a new path through the uncertainty.
