At the beginning of 2020, I set a goal to write one article every week. The desired outcome was deeper engagement with my professional community and discovering new ideas that I can incorporate into my work. I am finding that this goal is no longer serving its purpose, so I have decided to switch up how I engage with the professional community. I am moving to a monthly article cadence and focusing more time on interacting with others on social media. I hope that my interactions will lead to an increase in conversation instead of simple consumption of information.

I am relatively new to using social media in a professional capacity, so constructive criticism is welcome.

We exist in a period of extreme change. During periods with a high level of uncertainty, we crave structure. Those who are thriving are remaining flexible and can shift focus and adapt as necessary. Those who stay rigid are struggling. How can we increase flexibility while maintaining a certain level of predictability and comfort?
Here are four ways you can mitigate chaos while introducing change. 1. Explain What and Why Communicate what you are going to change and why the change is happening. You may be loosening a process, offering different tools to complete tasks, modifying schedules, or canceling meetings. Inform your team of the expected outcomes and how they will benefit from the change. 2. Provide a Feedback Mechanism Create a mechanism for your team to provide feedback on how the changes are impacting them. Listen to what they are saying and be prepared to roll back changes if necessary. 3. Identify the Levers Avoid a free for all by clearly identifying what areas are open for change and what needs to remain static. Providing a framework will allow you to evaluate the impact of the changes and maintain a level of consistency to ground your team. 4. Encourage Experimentation Encourage your team to experiment and contribute their ideas. If something is not working, do not force it. Ask the group to collaborate on how to improve the situation. |
